On September 16–20, representatives of RTU International Cooperation and Foreign Students Department – Director, Professor Igors Tipans and Project coordinator, Mr Eriks Badamsins – visited Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, University of Trento and Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.
The purpose of the visit was to meet the representatives of above-mentioned Italian universities to discuss possibilities for establishing cooperation in studies, research, as well as in implementation of joint projects and summer schools within different fields.

On Friday, 30 August, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Italy H.E. Ms. Solvita Āboltiņa paid a visit to Trieste, Italy to address a speech on the occasion of the conclusion of the international summer school “Nonlinear Life. Edition 3” organized by University of Trieste (UniTs) and Riga Technical University (RTU).
Afterwards, there has been hold a meeting between representatives of UniTs and RTU (organizing committee of the summer school) led by S. Āboltiņa and Pro-Rector of UniTs, professor Valter Sergo.
At the end of the visit, S. Āboltiņa, Director of Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Nanotechnologies of RTU, professor Jurijs Dehtjars and representative of International Cooperation Unit of RTU, Mr Ēriks Badamšins have proceeded towards the Municipality of Trieste, in order to meet the Councilor for European Projects, Mr. Lorenzo Giorgi and Head of Communication Office Ms. Barbara Borsi.
The organizational committee expresses gratitude to the professors for contributing to the scientific content of summer school, advanced research institutions and companies operating in the biomedical field for provision of the excursions and demonstrations and students for participating and broadening each other’s knowledge from a technical and cross-cultural communication understanding point of view.
The summer school has been attended by 18 students from 11 countries – Belarus, Czech Republic, India, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Nepal, Poland, Russia, Serbia and Spain. In the previous two years, the summer school took place in Riga and was initiated and organized by the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Nanotechnologies in cooperation with International Cooperation and Foreign Students Department of RTU.

During the time period from 14 July till 26 July Riga Technical University (RTU) Foreign Students Foundation and Short-Term Courses Unit in cooperation with the State Education Development Agency organized the summer camp “3D Animation World“, where 11 students from 10 countries – Mexico, Spain, Korea, Azerbaijan, Greece, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Lithuania – acquired an in-depth insight of the entire production process of animation.
Within the scientific part of the summer camp, the students have been taken to a journey through drawing sessions, character design, cinematic storytelling, object animation, editing, space, timing, cut-out and stop motion, interaction, 3D modelling programmes and presentation of their end product.
During the summer camp, students got acquainted with the Latvian language, culture and history-related aspects by attending Latvian language classes and visiting the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia and Kuldiga – one of the most beautiful cities in Latvia.
From July 1 to 26, 2019, RTU Foreign Students Foundation and Short-Term Courses Unit organized its 6th international summer camp “Robotics. Real-Life Applications of Intelligent Design“, where 14 students from 10 countries – Australia, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, France, Greece, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Ukraine and Russia – perfected practical and theoretical knowledge in robotics, 3D modeling, artificial intelligence and other areas related to the industry.
The aim of the summer school is not only to provide international students with high-quality knowledge from RTU faculty members and industry representatives who provide with the necessary theoretical and practical information in developing a functioning robot, but also – to promote a deeper understanding of the Latvian language, culture, history and education. Incorporated activities related to the Latvian language and culture in the summer school program, its organizers hope to enhance the recognition of Latvia abroad and to promote co-operation between RTU and higher education institutions in engineering fields. In this context, the organizers of the summer school are grateful to the State Education Development Agency for the financial support provided to 10 students.
The summer school organizers want to express gratitude to the RTU Datorzinātnes un informācijas tehnoloģijas fakultāte, RTU Design Factory, Lab House and robot development company RobotNest for providing intellectual and technical support. Besides all the activities and practical classes organized students were introduced to Latvian companies representing information technology, mechanics, mechatronics and electronics during the summer school. Robo Camp has been hosted by such companies as HansaMatrix, Mass Portal, Gamechanger Audio and SAF Tehnika.

On Monday, 1 July, Prof. Tchanguiz Razban Haghighi, Director of International Cooperation of the Polytech Nantes – Graduate School of Engineering of the University of Nantes – paid a visit to RTU, in order to meet with the representatives of International Cooperation and Foreign Students Department and the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (FET) and explore the possibilities of establishing cooperation in studies and research.
At the beginning of the visit, Prof. Tchanguiz Razban-Haghighi met with Prof. Igors Tipāns, Deputy Rector of International Academic Cooperation and Studies, Prof. Jurģis Poriņš, Dean of FET and Ēriks Badamšins, project manager of the International Cooperation Unit. During this meeting, the presentations of both institutions involved have been delivered by emphasizing competitive advantages within the field of electronics and telecommunications. After getting acquainted with the study and research activities implemented by both institutions, sides have shared ideas on possibilities of establishing joint study program and provision of the internships for Latvian and French students.
At the end of the visit, Prof. Tchanguiz Razban-Haghighi was provided with a visual insight into the technical supply of FET and other faculties that is used for the provision of the study process and implementation of international research projects.
On Wednesday, 26 June, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia for the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Latvia Mr Bagas Hapsoro and Political, Protocol Consular Affairs counselor Mr Ernest Hadinoto and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Latvia Mr Valdis Tilgalis paid a visit to Riga Technical University (RTU) Ķīpsala Campus.
The purpose of the visit was to acquire a visual insight into the technical supply of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Transport and Aeronautics and the Institute of Design Technologies, that is used for the provision of the study process and implementation of international research projects.
Afterwards, B. Hapsoro, E. Hadinoto, V. Tilgalis hold a meeting with RTU Deputy Rector for International Academic Cooperation and Studies, Professor Igors Tipāns and project manager of the International Cooperation Unit Mr Ēriks Badamšins to discuss current RTU cooperation with Indonesian higher education institutions and outlining possible future bilateral cooperation scenarios in studies, science and valorization.
