According to the decision of the Senate of Riga Technical University (RTU), we are delighted to announce that a new structural unit – International Education Research Center (IERC) – has been established. The new center was established by merging the forces of the International Cooperation and Foreign Students Department (ICFSD) and the Faculty of E-Learning Technologies and Humanities (FETH).

Latvian scientists are developing a new monitoring method that will help to determine the transfer of coronavirus to wastewater and the distribution in the environment. This is necessary in order to understand what virus-restrictive measures can be implemented and what preventive measures should be taken, taking into account not only the human-to-human virus transmission, but on a more broader scale – across the whole ecosystem. The study is carried out by Riga Technical University (RTU) together with the Latvian Biomedical Research and Studies Center (BMC) and the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment (BIOR). A team of scientists and engineers from the Design Factory of Riga Technical University (RTU) has created a prototype for an automated lung fan that is simple enough in production and easy to use, in order to help patients with breathing problems caused by Covid-19 efficiently. With the Rector’s order, Riga Technical University (RTU) extends the deadline for the end of the spring semester up to 14 August, whereas a new academic year will start on 14 September. Such a decision has been taken in order to enable students to perform all study assignments and laboratory works, which have been delayed due to the emergency situation caused by Covid-19, in a qualitative way.
The World Bank funded project was launched in October 2019 together with Upsala University and Kulob State University in Tajikistan.
RTU participates in the project with it’s expertise in order to help in the modernisation process of Kulob State University’s laboratories and study process in general.
The project started on September 1st, 2019 and it is coordinated by Tampere University, Finland. Project consortium consists of total of 6 higher education institutions from Finland, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Turkey and Latvia.
