The Summer School is an introduction to the entire process of animation: drawing sessions, character design, cinematic storytelling, object animation, opportunity to work with editing, space, timing, cut-out and stop motion, interaction and 3D modelling programmes. It combines the creative and technical aspects of 2D and 3D animation with information about today’s animation industry.

Programme

Academic Objectives

  • Increase students’ knowledge of the entire process of animation and visual narrative.
  • Improve the students’ knowledge, practical skills and techniques in editing and production techniques of animation.
  • Identify the basic principles of traditional animations and generate a short 2D animated film.
  • Create traditional and simple animation and then re-create it in 3D world.
  • Give and insight into modern trends of animation (world examples of animation).

Duration, Frequency

The professors from Riga Technical University (Latvia), guest lectures and specialists from the field will provide the latest techniques of animation industry. Classes will run from Monday through Friday, 6 hours per day including morning sessions from 9.00 to 12.00 and afternoon sessions from 13.00 to 16.00.

Lectures, field trips to the companies involved in production of animation, movies etc. and institutions, discussions, student presentations, exams and other activities are considered as a part of the academic program (6 hours per day). An additional academic workload outside the class for individual studies and research as well as group works is a part of the summer school as well.  (precise amount of hours shall be confirmed).

Students will be able to sign-up for cultural and social activities for the weekends before arriving to Riga Technical University. The following activities will be included in the program:

  • Riga city tour

The following activities for additional fee can be offered:

  • Jurmala city tour
  • Latvian castle and manor visit
  • A boat trip into the Riga Bay
  • Sigulda city tour

Methodology and Approach to Learning Process

The Summer School “Animation World” will be delivered in the form of workshops and lectures, studio projects, individual and group work (discussions, critiques). Field trips on animation and movie production companies as well as places of interest that inspire professional animators will be organized within the study programme of the Summer School.

Almost every object or service in some way is connected with robotics and we are accustomed to robots so much that we do not even realize this fact anymore. The 21st century invention becomes our everyday life. Robots are nothing extraordinary – they take a big part in our lives. Programme

THE ROBO CAMP will involve academic classes, practical group work, organisation visits, cultural and leisure activities.

The course aim is to show students all the way from idea to real, tangible result with final outcome – functional robot.

Week 1

Introduction week, project management, fundamental and potential design courses, prototype development and presentation + design pitch, working on robot design

Week 2

Robot constructing week concordant to student’s robot technical draft and 3D design. Final Project presentation week. Unfinished jobs and last corrections can be done.

Learning outcomes:

  • Practical and theoretical knowledge involvement in the field of robotics.
  • Tangible robot creation – from project up to real functional result.
  • Knowledge improvement of project management in the field of electronics.
  • Comprehension and skill acquirement with 3D design modelling software.

ROBO CAMP is a place where experience, knowledge and interesting people meet each other to put their ideas together and, of course, fulfil it.

It is necessary to remind that RTU ROBO CAMP is awaiting students from project management and design, because before and after robot creation process there always is a great amount of tasks and obligations to be done. No product can be generated (produced) without: exploring the needs of consumer, idea of robot itself, design and marketing.

Break the language barriers and build the better world by participating in Intensive English Summer Camp!

Riga Technical University an internationally recognized with its more than 25 years of outstanding experience in providing engineering study programmes taught fully in English offers English Language Intensive Summer School. It is designed to improve the English language learners’ communication level so they can use it for everyday life, work or study. During this Summer School scholars can increase their English fluency and accuracy in spoken skills.

Programme

The Intensive English summer school has been designed as a foundation course for future studies in Europe. Acquired English knowledge will develop your communication skills and grammatical accuracy of speech. The course is provided by native speakers and professional academic staff of Riga Technical University, Institute of Applied Linguistics. At the end of the successfully completed course students will be awarded with 4,5 ECTS and certificate on completion.

RTU is inviting you to become a member of SOCIAL INNOVATION SUMMER SCHOOL so we all  – students and lecturers – together can find solutions to modern world problems.

Programme

Students will participate in lectures and practical works on topics related to cultural changes, urban social ecosystems, sustainable entrepreneurship and social business, so the main aim of participant effort will be – focus attention on the ideas and solutions that create social value as well as the processes through which they are generated.

Participants of Social innovations summer school will work on three main topics:

  • Social entrepreneurship. Where students together with lecturers will try to get answer to modern day question – how to solve market decentralization problems;
  • Social innovations for different groups of society. Participants will be asked to define nowadays problems and afterwards come up with solutions;
  • Innovation process itself. All together we will solve the “mystery” – what is really “social innovation”!

Social Innovation summer school will provide students with unique experience through: interactive lectures which will be led by local and international experts, workshops, presentations of good practices and field trips. During all summer school practices students will be able to ask questions, discuss and compare the newly acquired knowledge to the situation in their home countries.

* A social innovation is a novel solution to a social problem that is more effective, efficient, sustainable, or just than current solutions. The value created accrues primarily to society rather than to private individuals. Social innovations shift functions between policy, the administration, the private sector, civil society and households.

Institute of Energy Systems and Environment in cooperation with Foreign Students Department of Riga Technical University welcome students from all over the world interested in sustainable development, innovative climate technologies, bio-economy, renewable energy resources, production and consumption of energy and diffusion of innovation to participate at the International Summer School “Climate ChangED – contributing to reducing Climate Change with research and education”.

Energy security, regional development, resilience of systems plays larger role in 21st century than ever before. Even more – sustainability and clean environment should be part of the systems; therefore, climate technologies are becoming more dominant solution. During the Summer School you will gain expertise on how to develop 100% renewable energy systems for better tomorrow.

Institute of Energy Systems and Environment (IESE) of RTU is the leading scientific institution in Latvia, which deals with environmental engineering studies. The IESE is working under close connection with industry, government and other research centres.

Prerequisites for candidates
