RTU Summer School “Robotics. Real-Life Applications of Intelligent Design”

From July 1 to 26, 2019, RTU Foreign Students Foundation and Short-Term Courses Unit organized its 6th international summer camp “Robotics. Real-Life Applications of Intelligent Design“, where 14 students from 10 countries – Australia, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, France, Greece, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Ukraine and Russia – perfected practical and theoretical knowledge in robotics, 3D modeling, artificial intelligence and other areas related to the industry.

The aim of the summer school is not only to provide international students with high-quality knowledge from RTU faculty members and industry representatives who provide with the necessary theoretical and practical information in developing a functioning robot, but also – to promote a deeper understanding of the Latvian language, culture, history and education. Incorporated activities related to the Latvian language and culture in the summer school program, its organizers hope to enhance the recognition of Latvia abroad and to promote co-operation between RTU and higher education institutions in engineering fields. In this context, the organizers of the summer school are grateful to the State Education Development Agency for the financial support provided to 10 students.

The summer school organizers want to express gratitude to the RTU Datorzinātnes un informācijas tehnoloģijas fakultāteRTU Design Factory, Lab House and robot development company RobotNest for providing intellectual and technical support. Besides all the activities and practical classes organized students were introduced to Latvian companies representing information technology, mechanics, mechatronics and electronics during the summer school. Robo Camp has been hosted by such companies as HansaMatrixMass PortalGamechanger Audio ​​and SAF Tehnika.

RTU and Polytech Nantes in France Agree to Foster Cooperation in Studies and Research

On Monday, 1 July, Prof. Tchanguiz Razban Haghighi, Director of International Cooperation of the Polytech Nantes – Graduate School of Engineering of the University of Nantes – paid a visit to RTU, in order to meet with the representatives of International Cooperation and Foreign Students Department and the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (FET) and explore the possibilities of establishing cooperation in studies and research.

At the beginning of the visit, Prof. Tchanguiz Razban-Haghighi met with Prof. Igors Tipāns, Deputy Rector of International Academic Cooperation and Studies, Prof. Jurģis Poriņš, Dean of FET and Ēriks Badamšins, project manager of the International Cooperation Unit. During this meeting, the presentations of both institutions involved have been delivered by emphasizing competitive advantages within the field of electronics and telecommunications. After getting acquainted with the study and research activities implemented by both institutions, sides have shared ideas on possibilities of establishing joint study program and provision of the internships for Latvian and French students.

At the end of the visit, Prof. Tchanguiz Razban-Haghighi was provided with a visual insight into the technical supply of FET and other faculties that is used for the provision of the study process and implementation of international research projects.


Ambassador of Indonesia to Sweden and Latvia visits RTU Ķīpsala Campus

On Wednesday, 26 June, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia for the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Latvia Mr Bagas Hapsoro and Political, Protocol Consular Affairs counselor Mr Ernest Hadinoto and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Latvia Mr Valdis Tilgalis paid a visit to Riga Technical University (RTU) Ķīpsala Campus.

The purpose of the visit was to acquire a visual insight into the technical supply of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Transport and Aeronautics and the Institute of Design Technologies, that is used for the provision of the study process and implementation of international research projects.

Afterwards, B. Hapsoro, E. Hadinoto, V. Tilgalis hold a meeting with RTU Deputy Rector for International Academic Cooperation and Studies, Professor Igors Tipāns and project manager of the International Cooperation Unit Mr Ēriks Badamšins to discuss current RTU cooperation with Indonesian higher education institutions and outlining possible future bilateral cooperation scenarios in studies, science and valorization.



Norwegian Ambassador’s visit at RTU

On Tuesday, 18 June, Ambassador of Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Latvia Kristian Ødegaard and representative of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Latvia Dace Dižbite-Ose visited RTU to meet the university administration and faculty deans, discussing current RTU cooperation with Norwegian higher education institutions and outlining possible future bilateral cooperation scenarios in studies, science and valorization.

During the meeting, RTU representatives introduced K. Ødegaard to the university’s progress in studies and science in cooperation with Norwegian higher education institutions and the industry; the parties also discussed possible models of cooperation between RTU and Norwegian higher education institutions by implementing joint study programmes and organising summer schools.



RTU cooperation with the People’s Republic of China

Annual Foreign Students Trip Around Latvia

RTU international students trip organised by RTU International Cooperation and Foreign Students department has become a tradition to promote foreign students interest about culture and traditions of Latvia. This year students visited Rundale Palace- a unique treasure of Baroque and Rococo art in Latvia, learned about clay tableware making traditions at “Laima Ceramics” and experienced bread and sweet pretzels baking and tasting at the bakery “Lāči”.  Looking forward to another trip next year!


Representatives of the Ministry of Investments and International Cooperation of Egypt visiting RTU

On April 3, 2019 RTU Deputy Rector Prof. Igors Tipāns and the Project Manager of International Cooperation and Foreign student Department Laura Štāle welcomed representatives of the Ministry of Investments and International Cooperation of Egypt at RTU Ķīpsala Campus.
Prof. Igors Tipāns gave presentation of study programmes offered to international students, presented the development of RTU and gave insight of facilities available for Egyptian students during their stay in RTU Campus. Currently there are 23 students at RTU from Egypt.
The increasing number of students from North African countries was also discussed, as well as opportunities for further cooperation, both in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Cairo and with Egyptian universities. RTU has good cooperation with Nile University.
During the conversation, there was a discussion on the official recognition by Egyptian authorities of the degrees obtained in Latvian higher education institutions.
RTU in cooperation with the Higher Education Export Association is planning a visit to Egypt in spring 2020 to promote higher education in Latvia, as well as to attend secondary schools whose graduates are interested in continuing their studies at Latvian universities.
Egyptian officials expressed the belief that the study programmes offered by RTU, the living conditions, and Latvia as a safe and green country are very attractive to potential students from Egypt.


RTU ICFSD International projects unit is successfully continuing participation in Erasmus+ KA2 Capacity Building in Higher Education project entitled TIC CRUZ DEL SUR “Use of ICT for integral management of internationalization in Latin America”. During a period of five days (18.03.2019. – 22.03.2019) TICRUZ “Use of ICT for integral management of internationalization in Latin America” consortium members from RTU and Technological University of Panama (UTP) and Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí (UNACHI) met for a working session in Panama, City of Panama hosted by UTP.
During the meeting the RTU, represented by a team of three people within the capacity of TICRUZ project quality management, discussed the project development progress and learned about the requirements of UTP, UNACHI and other participating universities in Latin America’s for the functionality of the IT tool currently being developed.
The RTU team also met with applicants for the Erasmus+ KA107 mobility to interview possible scholarship holders. The mobility is set to be implemented at RTU until July 2019.
In addition to the scheduled working sessions, RTU team members held a well-received seminar on curriculum internationalization and organized a workshop for administrative and teaching staff about Erasmus+ international credit mobility (KA107). Within the workshop the participants prepared various mobility project proposals for UTP outlining the applicant selection requirements, the aims for the mobility and main thematic areas of cooperation.
The key objective of the TICRUZ consortium is to enhance capacity for international cooperation between universities in Latin America’s least developed regions and HEIs in EU countries, by facilitating transfer of knowledge and best practice in transparency and credit recognition. Furthermore, it aims at promoting the exchange of knowhow and good practices among the partnership HEIs, thus creating IT’s tools in the management of mobility programmes as a part of a future internationalization strategy that may positively contribute to their development. This project will capitalize on the strengths of existing partnership, Erasmus Mundus CRUZ DEL SUR. It consists of 10 full member HEIs, targeting a total of 6 countries, 3 in Latin America: Honduras, Panama and Argentina; and 3 in Europe: Spain, Latvia and Portugal.
