ERASMUS+ KA2 PROJECT “TIC CRUZ DEL SUR”

RTU FSD International projects unit has succesfully initiated Erasmus+ KA2 Capacity Building in Higher Education project entitled TICRUZ “Use of ICT for integral management of internationalization in Latin America”.

The key objective of the TICRUZ consortium is to enhance capacity for international cooperation between universities in Latin America’s least developed regions and HEIs in EU countries, by facilitating transfer of knowledge and best practice in transparency and credit recognition. Furthermore it aims at promoting the exchange of knowhow and good practices among the partnership HEIs, thus creating IT’s tools in the management of mobility programmes as a part of a future internationalization strategy that may positively contribute to their development. This project will capitalize on the strengths of existing partnership, Erasmus Mundus CRUZ DEL SUR. It consists of 10 full member HEIs, targeting a total of 6 countries, 3 in Latin America: Honduras, Panama and Argentina; and 3 in Europe: Spain, Latvia and Portugal. Most of the Latin American HEIs (4 from 6) are situated in vulnerable areas (Less Developed Regions), into which the project intends to make a big impact.

1st consortium meeting took place in Murcia, Spain 28.11.2017. – 30.11.2017.

ERASMUS+ KA2 PROJECT “EXTEND”

RTU FSD International projects unit has succesfully initiated Erasmus+ KA2 Capacity Building in Higher Education project entitled EXTEND “Excellence in Engineering Education through Teacher Training and New Pedagogic Approaches in Russia and Tajikistan”. Project consortium consists of 11 higher education institutions coming from Latvia, Romania, Portugal, UK, Russia and Tajikistan.

During the period of 3 years, project consortium will be working together to solve three specific problems in Russia and Tajikistan higher education field:

1) Development of comprehensive model and descriptor of the competences needed for the university teacher within engineering disciplines.

2) Establishment of a network for centres of Excellence in Engineering Education (EXTEND centres), offering training courses, research and consultations in engineering disciplines in each Russian and Tajik partner university.

3) Development of suitable training program for PhD students and teachers in teaching engineering disciplines.

1st consortium meeting took place in Moscow 20.12.2017. – 21.12.2017.

The International Projects Unit of RTU participates in a newly approved Capacity Building project under the title MEGA.

The project preparation started on October 15th 2017 and it is coordinated by Turku University of Applied Sciences, Finland. The aim of Mega project is to upscale child and adolescent mental health services in southern Africa, including the Republic of South Africa and Zambia, by creating a mobile application for healthcare specialists. RTU, as the technical partner of the project, will hold the responsibility of developing the application. The project team will attend Mega kick-off meeting in Pretoria, Republic of South Africa, on November 21st, hosted by South African Society of Psychiatrists. The International Projects Unit is determined to achieve the best outcomes during the kick-of meeting to ensure a successful operation and outcome of the project.”

Vice-President of Vietnam visits RTU campus.

On 20 October the Vice President of Vietnam Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and representatives of various ministries in Vietnam visited RTU Campus while being on the official visit in Latvia. During the meeting  Deputy Rector of International Academic Cooperation and Studies Professor Igors Tipans presented study programs and opportunities offered by RTU to foreign students, while Professor Gatis Bazbauers, Vice-Rector of Science informed about the areas of scientific research at RTU. At the end of the visit, the Vice-President and the accompanying delegation visited the Faculty of Architecture and the Design Factory.

24-hour Reading Room

Starting from October 17th students can use a 24-hour reading room in RTU Scientific Library in Paula Valdena Street 5, 1st floor and study also during the night hours and outside the library or faculties working hours.

Note that the library is closed in the sanitary hour from 7:30 until 8:30, a clean-up day, state holidays of the Republic of Latvia and the days before state holidays after 14:00.

To enter the 24-hour reading room, read the terms of use in ORTUS,  register as a user and scan a specially registered user’s student card  at the entrance.

Cooperation Between China and Central and Eastern European Countries

On September 21, 22 at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, the Fourth Meeting of China-Central and East European (CEE) Higher Education Institutions Consortium Meeting and the Fifth China-CEE countries Education Policy Dialogue took place. During the meeting, opportunities for co-operation between Chinese and European universities to develop joint study programs, scholarship projects, ways to promote the exchange of students from China and 16 Central and Eastern European countries in the framework of the new Silk Road project were discussed. Professor Igors Tipans, Deputy Rector of the RTU represented Latvia in the consortium meeting. RTU as a member of the consortium will have more opportunities to develop cooperation with the leading universities of the People’s Republic of China.

RTU Non-Traditional Sports Games

RTU international students had a lot of fun in RTU Non-Traditional Sports Games 2017 on September 9 at RTU Sports, Seminar and Recreation Centre “Ronīši”.

It’s not only a nice tradition, but also a good chance to know each other better and make friends.

The Post-Doctoral Project for Young Researchers

The Office of the Vice-Rector for Research of RTU has announced selection of the post-doctoral applications of RTU  to increase capacity of young researchers  by providing possibilities to start their career in a scientific institution.

 Post-doctoral applications can be submitted from 10 August till 29 September 2017 by Latvian and foreign researchers that have acquired a doctorate not more than five years before the submission deadline.

1st RTU International Alumni Event

The first RTU international alumni event took place on 7–8 July. The event was organised in honour of the 155th anniversary of RTU and the 25th anniversary of RTU Foreign Students Department. Its aim was to bring together former RTU foreign students in order to form the basis for the international network of foreign alumni and their future activities. During the event, alumni met former fellow students and academic staff members, as well as visited places where their studies and extracurricular activities took place.
