RTU Summer Camp “3D Animation World“

During the time period from 14 July till 26 July Riga Technical University (RTU) Foreign Students Foundation and Short-Term Courses Unit in cooperation with the State Education Development Agency organized the summer camp “3D Animation World“, where 11 students from 10 countries – Mexico, Spain, Korea, Azerbaijan, Greece, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Lithuania – acquired an in-depth insight of the entire production process of animation.

Within the scientific part of the summer camp, the students have been taken to a journey through drawing sessions, character design, cinematic storytelling, object animation, editing, space, timing, cut-out and stop motion, interaction, 3D modelling programmes and presentation of their end product.

During the summer camp, students got acquainted with the Latvian language, culture and history-related aspects by attending Latvian language classes and visiting the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia and Kuldiga – one of the most beautiful cities in Latvia.

RTU Summer School “Robotics. Real-Life Applications of Intelligent Design”

From July 1 to 26, 2019, RTU Foreign Students Foundation and Short-Term Courses Unit organized its 6th international summer camp “Robotics. Real-Life Applications of Intelligent Design“, where 14 students from 10 countries – Australia, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, France, Greece, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Ukraine and Russia – perfected practical and theoretical knowledge in robotics, 3D modeling, artificial intelligence and other areas related to the industry.

The aim of the summer school is not only to provide international students with high-quality knowledge from RTU faculty members and industry representatives who provide with the necessary theoretical and practical information in developing a functioning robot, but also – to promote a deeper understanding of the Latvian language, culture, history and education. Incorporated activities related to the Latvian language and culture in the summer school program, its organizers hope to enhance the recognition of Latvia abroad and to promote co-operation between RTU and higher education institutions in engineering fields. In this context, the organizers of the summer school are grateful to the State Education Development Agency for the financial support provided to 10 students.

The summer school organizers want to express gratitude to the RTU Datorzinātnes un informācijas tehnoloģijas fakultāteRTU Design Factory, Lab House and robot development company RobotNest for providing intellectual and technical support. Besides all the activities and practical classes organized students were introduced to Latvian companies representing information technology, mechanics, mechatronics and electronics during the summer school. Robo Camp has been hosted by such companies as HansaMatrixMass PortalGamechanger Audio and SAF Tehnika.

RTU Summer School “Cultural Shock and Social Innovations”

From July 8 to 25, 2019, Riga Technical University (RTU) organized the summer school “Cultural Shock. Business, Social and Engineering Perspectives”. The scientific program was developed especially for 26 students from the RTU partner higher education institution in France – Ecole D’ingénieurs En Informatique – Epita (Computer Science Academy).

In organizing this Summer School, its organizers – RTU Foreign Students Foundation and Short-Term Courses Unit – upon request of the partner institution, tailored the scientific content of the event to the studying and working profile of the participants. In keeping with tendencies affecting the landscape of global higher education, the program of the summer school has been broken into two parts – provision of theoretical content (by academic staff of RTU and guest lectures) and practical part (implementation of the internship at the companies based in Riga). At the end of the practical part all students successfully defended their projects.

The organizers are deeply indebted to Siemens Mobility Oy Latvian Branch, Accenture Latvia, Freeport of Riga, SAF Tehnika, Scandiweb and RTU Institute of Telecommunications for contributing to the summer school.
